WATER FROM YOUR EYES 14

Brooklyn art-pop duo Water From Your Eyes release new track '14', the third single from their anticipated new album Everyone's Crushed. Previous singles 'Barley' and 'True Life' have been intensely upbeat experimental pop songs, whereas '14' is a mournful and minimal ballad, with synths and strings combining to providing an atmospheric bed for singer Rachel Brown's earnest vocal delivery, which is as unsettling as it is beautiful. As with their previous singles, the track comes with a visually stunning video, a collage of black and white footage directed by Brown herself, "I was largely inspired by “Meshes of the Afternoon”, “Last Year in Marienbad”, and “Spirited Away” as well as the painting “The Triumph of Baccus” by Diego Velázquez, a favorite of Nate’s. I wanted to capture the feeling of being haunted by one’s own inner turmoils and the act of letting those conflicts go. Despite the little preparation time and the fact that I was in many ways winging it, I am quite happy with what my friends and I were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time and I think it accurately encapsulates the emotions that I feel when I listen to “14”." The duo's fifth album Everyone’s Crushed is set for release on the 26th of May on Matador Records. -Toby Evans-Jesra
